This database contains all county-level variables for 1990 and 1991 contained in the annual series of provincial economic yearbooks edited by the statistical bureau of respective provinces and published by China Statistics Publishers, Beijing. This database was assembled by Professor Robert Dernberger of the University of Michigan and compiled and edited by CITAS. Professor Dernberger has, in an attached document, provided an evaluation of data and sources. The data are stored in 19 thematic data files, with two reference tables, a Variable Information Table which stores data definitions, and a GB Code Table which stores geocodes and placenames. Although the number and variety of variables is large, for most variables coverage is sparse. Therefore variable coverage tables are provided indicating the percentage of counties covered in each province.
